Where this word comes from
From Middle Welsh pyscawt, from Proto-Brythonic *pɨskọd, borrowed from Latin piscātus, past participle of piscor (“to fish”), from piscis (“fish”). Originally a plural counterpart to pysg, from Proto-Brythonic *pɨsk (compare Cornish pysk, Breton pesk), which has however been displaced by the derived singulative pysgodyn.
