Further from Middle French tasse (14th c.), from Arabic طَاس (ṭās), variant of طَسْت (ṭast), from Middle Persian tšt' (tašt). Cognate with Modern French tasse, Dutch tas, dialectal English tass. Distantly related with Docht, Technologie, Text.
