The feminine under influence of the rhyming word Demut (“humbleness”, from Middle High German demüete) or other feminines ending with -mut (like Großmut, Schwermut). From Middle Low German also continental Scandinavian vemod. Dutch weemoed is native but semantically influenced by the German.
