Where this word comes from
Originally a pet form of Jalmar, Jalmari. Generally credited to Finnish author, translator and historian Jalmari Finne, whose godson (born in 1937) was likely the first to bear the name. Its popularity was further helped by novels, which featured a protagonist called Jari, written by Aino Räsänen in the 1940s. Finne may have used his own given name as the base when coining the new name. Also rarely used as a pet form of Jarl.
