a neighborhood of Helsinki
Where this word comes from
First attested as Konalby in 1540. Probably from earlier *Konhola (through Swedish Kånala), perhaps from a village named Konho in Akaa or more directly from a byname/nickname konhopää (“fuzzy head; large head”), which may have developed into an old given name Konho (and thence into a village name). For konhopää, compare korho, of which it appears to be a rare (potentially sound-symbolic) variant.
