Meaning & usage
a district of Vantaa
Where this word comes from
linna (“castle”) + -inen, in Vantaa probably after Zachris Topelius's book Gröna kammaren i Linnais gård, in which it was named after an estate in Mäntsälä. The estate in Mäntsälä, in turn, may be inspired by other similar place names, or be a folk-etymological adaptation of Swedish Lindnäs.
