Where this word comes from
From Proto-Finnic *hinta (compare Estonian hind), possibly borrowed from Proto-Baltic *śímta (compare Lithuanian šimtas (“hundred”)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱm̥tóm (“hundred”), and thereby a distant doublet of sata. However, the Baltic etymology is uncertain, since the semantic development is unclear. Compare also Erzya чандо (čando, “ransom, (obsolete) price”), чонда (čonda).
