Where this word comes from

A variant of earlier and now dialectal akkuna (of Slavic origin, see it for more). First attested in 1644. The initial vowel, also found in Ingrian ikkuna, Karelian ikkuna, Ludian ikkun and Veps ikun, may be due to influence from Russian ико́на (ikóna) (possibly even earlier Old East Slavic икона (ikona, “icon”)). The computing sense is a semantic loan from English window.
