Where this word comes from
According to Aikio (2026), from Proto-Finnic [Term?] (compare dialectal lantua, lanttua (“to languish, collapse due to exhaustion, pass out”)), from Proto-Uralic *lëmtɜ- (“to stoop down”) (whence also Proto-Samic *luomtētēk (“to lie down and refuse to get up”), Erzya ландямс (lanďams, “to crouch down, stoop down”)) and Proto-Samoyedic *lëmtå (“crooked, bent”), *lëmtərå- (“to bend, stagger, swing (under the weight of something or in the wind)”). Alternatively, derived from lansi. In either case, with + -istaa (factitive verb).
