Where this word comes from

From Proto-Finnic *saip(p)u-, borrowed from Proto-Germanic *saipǭ (“soap”) (compare Swedish såpa) or later Proto-Norse [script needed] (*saipwōn-). The variant saipua is attested since the time of Mikael Agricola (output c. 1543–1552) and modern saippua first in 1609. Doublet of suopa and soopa. The word has many variants in dialects; saiput is most likely to be the primary form, with the other forms deriving by analogy from the inflected (oblique) forms, e.g. saiput (→ saippue- ~ saippua-) → saippua (found traditionally in Central Finland, South Karelia, Ingria, as well as parts of Southwest Finland and Savonia).
