Has been compared with Proto-Samic *čuoltētēk, Udmurt чӧлтыны (ćöltyny), and UEW reconstructs Proto-Uralic *ćëlta-, *ćōlta-, but the former is not regular, while the latter is obsolete (pre-Finnic had no long vowels). An alternative is suoli + -taa, although the semantics are unclear. However, the phonological structure suggests a derivative.
