Where this word comes from

Dissimilated from earlier krem, from Dutch crème, from Middle French crème (modern French chrême), from Old French cresme, from Late Latin crama, Transalpine Gaulish word influenced by Latin chrisma, from Ancient Greek χρῖσμα (khrîsma, “anointing, unction; wall coating, plaster”). Doublet of krem. The pronunciation was subsequently adapted to English cream, which eventually distinguished the spelling from krem (“beige colour”).
