tiga.
three
Meaning & usage
three
Enam dibagi tiga sama dengan dua.
Where this word comes from
Inherited from Malay tiga (“three”), from Classical Malay tiga, from Late Old Malay *tiga (compare Early Old Malay [script needed] (tlu)), probably from Prakrit 𑀢𑀺𑀕 (tiga), from Sanskrit त्रिक (trika, “triad, triple”). Regardless of the origin, all linguists agree that Malay tiga originates from a non-Austronesian language since most Austronesian languages have *təlu for 'three'. Displaced native Old Malay [script needed] (tlu), whence Javanese telu and Sundanese tilu.
