Meaning & usage
that is, in other words, i.e.
Where this word comes from
There are two theories as to where this word usage originated: * From Malay yakni, ya’ni, from Classical Malay ياءني (yaʕni), يعني (yaʕni), يَعْنِي, from Arabic يَعْنِي (yaʕnī). * Inherited from Malay iaini, a blend of ia + ini, with a glottal stop (ʕ) inserted between either syllables to imitate the pronunciation of Arabic يَعْنِي (yaʕnī). Compare yaitu (from the blend of ia + itu).
Try it on your idea.
