Where this word comes from
Of uncertain origin. The most plausible etymon is Latin captiāre, interjection of the Latin verb captiō (“catching, capture”) as "to chase out", in the sense of to insert, to forcefully put in. Thus, the noun captum as accusative singular of captus (“having been taken in, captured”). Antonio Lupis concludes that the term cazzo does not derive from cazza ("ladle") because cazzo is an original term from the Umbrian-Tuscan area since 1300CE. Another possible etymon is Old Italian cazza (“ladle”), from Late Latin cattiam, in turn from Ancient Greek κυάθιον (kuáthion), diminutive form of κύαθος (kúathos, “ladle for wine”); cf. also cazzuola. Another is Byzantine Greek ἀκάτιον (akátion, “mainmast”). See also caspita.

used as an intensifier, often replacing cosa or che, similar to "what the fuck".
Che cazzo vuoi?
Cazzo guardi?
good grief
my ass!
Buongiorno un cazzo!
