Where this word comes from
Inherited from Old Italian onne~onni (with /ˈɔ-/ per the Latin etymon), from Latin omnis. The development of palatalized /-ɲ-/ and closed /ˈo-/, already attested in the thirteenth century (ógne, later ógni), are due to the word being frequently unstressed. Variants with /ˈɔ-/ still survive in much of Tuscany and Central Italy.
