Borrowed from Ancient Greek Τύρας (Túras), from Scythian tūra (“quick, rapid, strong”), from an Indo-Iranian root shared with Sanskrit तुर (tura, “quick, strong”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *teur (“strong”). Compare the Gallic settlement Autricum. Also spelled as Τύρις (Túris) and survived in Turkish as Turla.
