Meaning & usage

noun[ˈkruːs]Classical-Latin[ˈkrus]
  1. leg

    declension-3
Where this word comes from

Unclear. Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *ḱruH- based on Old Armenian սրունք (srunkʻ, “leg, shank”). However, other etymologies have been proposed for the Armenian word, such as a loan from Iranian *sraun- (cf. Avestan 𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬊𐬥𐬌 (sraoni)) among others. Albanian kërci may also be a cognate.
