Even.
a male given name from Old Norse, variant of Eivind
Meaning & usage
a male given name from Old Norse, variant of Eivind
Where this word comes from
Inherited from Old Norse Eyvindr, through a younger Norwegian reduced form, ultimately from Proto-Norse *Auja-winduʀ. The Proto-Norse name is traditionally analysed as containing an element related to *awją (“luck, good fortune”) and the name element *-winduʀ (“victor, victorious lord”), although the precise interpretation of the first element is uncertain. Compare Norwegian Nynorsk Even, Swedish Even and Danish Even (“male given name”). See also Eivind and Øyvind.
