Where this word comes from
Internationalism, ultimately from Ancient Greek Καλλιστώ (Kallistṓ, “Kallisto; the most beautiful one”). The Ancient Greek name is from κᾰ́λλῐστος (kắllĭstos, “most beautiful”) + -ώ (-ṓ, “female given-name suffix”), literally “the most beautiful one”. The name was rendered in Latin as Callistō. The Norwegian spelling Kallisto reflects the Greek form, while Callisto is used in Norwegian for the moon of Jupiter named after her. The asteroid 204 Kallisto is likewise named after the mythological Kallisto. Compare the parallel adaptations Danish Kallisto, Swedish Kallisto, German Kallisto, Finnish Kallisto, Polish Kallisto, Dutch Callisto and English Callisto.
