Derived from French Rémy, a French short form of Latin Remigius. In Norwegian, Remy is used as a spelling variant of Remi. The Latin name is traditionally derived from rēmex (“oarsman”), genitive rēmigis. Like Remi, it may also be used as a short form of Jeremias. First attested in 1898 in Norway. Cognate with Danish Remy, Swedish Remy and Finnish Remy.
