Uranus.

Internationalism, based on Latin Uranus (“Uranus”), from Ancient Greek Οὐρανός (Ouranós, “Uranus, personification of the sky”), from οὐρανός (ouranós, “sky, heaven”). The Norwegian mythological form Uranos more closely reflects the Greek name. The deeper origin of the Greek word is disputed. One influential proposal reconstructs an older Proto-Hellenic form *Worsanós, relating it to οὐρέω (ouréō, “to urinate”) and ultimately to the Proto-Indo-European root *h₁wers- (“to rain, moisten”); compare Sanskrit वर्षति (varṣati, “it rains”). Another proposal connects the word with *wers- (“to rise, protrude”), while a derivation from Pre-Greek has also been suggested. The formerly proposed comparison with वरुण (varuṇa, “Varuṇa”) is generally rejected as an etymological equation. The astronomical sense is transferred from the name of the Greek deity. The planet was discovered by William Herschel in 1781. Herschel initially proposed the name Georgium Sidus (“George's Star”), in honour of King George III, but Johann Elert Bode subsequently proposed Uranus, continuing the Greco-Roman mythological naming tradition of the other planets. The latter name eventually became generally accepted. Parallel international forms include Danish Uranus, Swedish Uranus, German Uranus, Dutch Uranus, French Uranus, Spanish Urano and English Uranus.
