Where this word comes from

Derived from Latin Z, ultimately from Ancient Greek Ζ (Z), from Phoenician 𐤆 (zayin, “weapon”), with the early alphabetic form transmitted through Etruscan. The letter occurred in the archaic Latin alphabet, where it originally occupied the position after ⟨F⟩. After the sound represented by the letter disappeared from native Latin, ⟨Z⟩ fell out of ordinary use. It was reintroduced under Augustus for writing Greek loanwords and was placed at the end of the Latin alphabet. Norwegian inherited the letter through the Latin alphabet and the Danish–Norwegian written tradition.
