Where this word comes from

Internationalism, based on English Zambia, the name adopted for the former Northern Rhodesia when the country became independent in 1964. The English name was formed from English Zambezi, the name of the river which flows through western Zambia and along much of its southern border. The deeper origin of the river name Zambezi is uncertain. Store norske leksikon gives the interpretation “God's river”, but other historical explanations have also been proposed. Compare the parallel international adaptations Norwegian Nynorsk Zambia, Danish Zambia, Swedish Zambia, German Sambia, French Zambie and Portuguese Zâmbia (“Zambia”).
