Where this word comes from

Borrowed from Greenlandic annoraaq (“anorak, fur overall”), from Proto-Inuit *atnuʀaaq (“clothing”), ultimately from Proto-Eskimo *atə- (“to put on”), although the precise formation of the Proto-Inuit word is uncertain. Cognate with Inuktitut ᐊᓐᓄᕌᑦ (annoraat, “clothing”). The Greenlandic word has sometimes instead been connected with anori (“wind”), an interpretation reflected in some Scandinavian dictionaries, but the comparative Eskimo–Aleut reconstruction supports derivation from the clothing word-family above. First attested in 1890 in Norwegian, initially also in the spellings anorak and annorak. Parallel borrowings and related adaptations include Norwegian Nynorsk anorakk, Danish anorak, Swedish anorak, Faroese anorakkur, Finnish anorakki, German Anorak, and English anorak.
