Where this word comes from
Inherited from Old Polish kadź, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *kȃdь, from Ancient Greek κάδιον (kádion), diminutive of κάδος (kádos). The Ancient Greek word has been borrowed into South Slavic, which Boryś states that it might have been borrowed into Old Polish from East Slavic. However, Bańkowski questions this and points to a relation to Lithuanian [Term?] or a possibility of the word being from Sanskrit कन्दु (kandu).
