Where this word comes from

Coined by Brazilian writer José de Alencar, as the name of a character in Ubirajara. Navarro derives it from Old Tupi eíra (“bee”) + sy (“mother”), making it a doublet of Iraci. Since she's called “star of the day” through the story, it could simply be a clipping of Old Tupi kûarasy (“sun”). The city was named in 1904 after the character.
