Where this word comes from
Ellipsis of São Domingos de Caibi (literally “Saint Dominic of Caibi”), an earlier locality in Palmitos /Chapecó before the municipal incorporation. "Caibi" was coined by professor Julio Turcato in the 1950s, seemingly from Old Tupi ka'aoby (“green leaf”), and was added to the placename to differentiate it from an homonym.
