Where this word comes from

Inherited from Latin vōcem, accusative singular of vōx, from Proto-Italic *wōks, from Proto-Indo-European *wṓkʷs. Boace was largely supplanted by the Slavicism glas, which was itself later replaced by the borrowed doublet voce during the period of Re-Latinisation of Romanian. Cognate to Aromanian boatsi, Sicilian buci, Sardinian boghe, Dalmatian baud, Istriot boûz, Ladino boz, Spanish voz.
