Where this word comes from
The origin is disputed: * According to the Swedish Institute for Language and Folklore, the name derives from part of the farmstead Nordgården in the village of Krokslätt. It was named after Bengt Landin, a coppersmith and member of parliament. * According to Sören Skarback, the name was given by Elisabeth van Eijk, a Dutch-born wife of Markus Kock, during a visit to Gothenburg in 1659. She named a picturesque valley Laandal, from Dutch laan (“avenue”) + dal (“dale”), reflecting her heritage and the valley's appearance. First attested in 1789.
