Where this word comes from
Inherited from Proto-Sabaki *-caka, from Proto-Bantu *-càka. The expected outcome for Southern dialects, -chaka, is attested. The Unguja form (and from there the standard Swahili form) is borrowed from the Northern-dialect form -t̪aka. In Sabaki, cognate with Ngazidja Comorian -tsaha and Giryama -tsaka. Other Bantu cognates include Rwanda-Rundi -shāka.
