Meaning & usage
a male given name from West Circassian, popular among Circassians in Turkey.
Where this word comes from
Turkified version of the real name Aytech. From West Circassian Айтэч (Ajtɛč) or East Circassian Айтэч (Ajtɛč). Although it is a Turkic origin name, this specific usage is unique to Circassians and came to Turkey from Circassia. The name was altered to sound Turkish (resembling the Turkish words ay (“moon”) and tek (“single, only”)) in order to avoid Kemalist bans on non-Turkish names and to make it easier to pronounce.
