Inherited from Ottoman Turkish باجاناق (bacanaḳ) or باجیناق (bacınaḳ) or باجناح (bacanaḥ), from Proto-Turkic *bāčanak, possibly from *bāča (“elder sister, husbands of sisters”), whence also bacı (“sister”), however this etymology has some contention due to uncertain suffix structure.
