Cognate with Crimean Tatar domalan, Azerbaijani dombalan. Akin to domalmak (“to bulge out”) + -an. Armenian դոմբալա (dombala, “truffle”) and probably Hungarian tapló (“tinder, fungus”), Udi телепа (telepa, “mushrooms”) are Turkic borrowings.
