Where this word comes from

From Ottoman Turkish قولای (kolay), from Old Anatolian Turkish قولای (qolay), equivalent to kol (“arm; earlier also 'hand'”) + -ay, thus having the original meaning “handy”. Sevan Nişanyan compares the Old Turkic verbal stem [script needed] (qol-, “to want; beg”), which is also derived from the stem meaning 'arm/hand'. Cognate with Azerbaijani qolay (“easy”), Khalaj qolay (“near”), Gagauz колай, Karaim колай, Kazakh қолай (qolay, “convenient”), Karachay-Balkar and Kumyk къолай (qolay, “better”).
