Where this word comes from
From South Levantine Arabic تعال لهون (taʕāl la-hōn, “come here”); cf. Maltese talahawn. The expression became popularized in August 2022 by the Syrian rapper Hassan Tammo, with the track “Ta3la hon” (see quote). Its use was amplified over time through Internet culture; by the summer of 2024 it had become general Gen Z slang.
